3. Tracker Music

This page offers a small selection of my tracker music, most of it converted into MP3 format. For more, please visit Modland,
a project dedicated to preserving tracker music. Searching for "Jashiin" will take you to pages of tracker music, most of it in Impulse
Tracker format. For correct playback of such files, I recommend downloading XMPlay.

Pieces from 2004

  – Stride 2.30
  – Autumn Wind 1.24
  – Decade 2.02
This was one of the many experimental tracks I made in 2004. Here, the idea was to only create fractured melodies, and make pauses and percussive
sounds into obstacles; nothing was to disturb the even surface of the beat. The refrain uses the same idea, this time stopping the melodies from flowering
     by incessant looping.

  – Juno Moneta 3.35
Juno Moneta was another experimental 2004 track. In the IT source, there are four equal segments of music, separated from each other. Each
may be regarded as an independent piece of music, and in the original, it was impossible to listen to the entire piece - just to these segments
individually, since all four made perfect loops. The MP3 above is a realization with a couple of these segments repeated, but the original experience
is only possible inside a tracker program such as Impulse Tracker (which I used), SchismTracker, etc.

  – Endtune 0.23

Pieces from 2004: South Series / South African Series

A small collection of loops, each file less than 10k in size. This was my idea of an alternative chiptune – chiptunes are usually
made using simple wave sounds, to emulate old sound producing equipment, whereas I wanted as much editor trickery, but with
full-fledged sounds at my disposal. All of these pieces are loops, and are meant to be repeated a few times; thus they work best
when played using XMPlay or a tracker. This is the only release on this page which is presented in IT format:

Pieces from 2003

  – Bird-Call 0.36
  – Mr. Jenkinson Influences 2.06
Created in an hour or so, very old samples from an Amiga module. The title is completely misleading, since Mr. Jenkinson had nothing to with this
piece, but when I realized how misleading it is, it was too late. I like the lead sound here, sampled by myself from some unlikely source.

  – Boredom 1.01
One of several piano-based pieces I made in 2003, all of which strived to show how the piano is completely electronic. This one is somewhat calm and
beatless, but the rest were all brooding pieces, usually with a steady beat.

  – Druid Conceived 2.37
  – Untitled [Remix] 1.40
Again, based on samples from an old Amiga module, which I think was a remix of something. I took them and made my track sometime in 2002, then
found the track again a year later and made a second version. So this is something like a remix of a remix of a remix.

  – Seconds 09.1 Test (3) 1.09
  – NES Loops (bonus track) 1.51
Made quickly, and using genuine Nintendo samples. I experimented a lot with those, but the only piece I actually finished was this one. I have been
looking into the available Nintendo music editors, and hope to someday make more music of this flavor.

Pieces from 2003: Penmanship EP

This was my second self-released EP (although it was really a single), a CD-R with a cover I designed. Initially I wanted to make
quite a few copies, and a friend helped me by printing dozens of copies of the cover on good paper. Things didn't work out, though, and
I ended up making only two or three copies, all of which are lost now, I think, along with the cover design. Here are the first two,
and the last track from the EP. The first two tracks segue.

  – Penmanship (edit) 1.57
  – Penmanship (acid mix) 2.36
  – Penmanship (day mix) 1.44

Pieces from 2002

  – Kylmyys 2.18
  – Untitled [Bird-Call EP, Track 2] 4.59
The main project of 2002 for me was the Bird-Call EP, my first proper album-type release. There were five tracks. I made a few copies and gave them to friends.
Just like the 2003 Penmanship EP, the original cover art does not survive, and neither do the final versions of at least two tracks. At any rate, this piece is the
only one I like today, although I've released another (track 4) elsewhere in IT format.

  – Untitled [Latitude] 4.03
  – Untitled [Worth4] 1.36

Pieces from 2002: The Musiikki Series

This series of eight tiny noise pieces started as an experiment with improper sound sources, where I would go through the now-common
procedure of taking executables, Microsoft Word documents, and other non-sound files and using those as samples. At some point the
pseudo-Finnish track names happened, and one of the tracks became a short, sad melody rather than bursts of noise. This was one of the
earliest album-type releases I've made, and is the earliest surviving one.
